Katie Gill grew up in Roswell, NM and graduated from Roswell High School. She then attended Eastern New Mexico University in Portales where she earned a Bachelor of Music with Vocal Performance emphasis. She has lived in Albuquerque since 1975, performing in hotels, restaurants, nightclubs, craft fairs, private parties, etc. Her unique and versatile voice spans folk, pop, country, rock, and jazz. She works as a soloist, accompanying herself on the guitar, as well as being involved in numerous groups and bands playing a variety of genres. She does most of the vocal and musical arranging for the groups she's in. Her voice has been heard on jingles for radio and TV throughout the United States. She was the voice of 101.3 The Range country station, singing the station ID. In 1999, she appeared with Susan Clark at the Kerrville Folk Festival Main Stage in Kerrville, Texas. Her formal vocal/classical training has allowed her to appear in both opera and light opera productions in New York City and in New Mexico. Performing all over New Mexico with a children's opera company, Opera Unlimited, Katie has brought both music appreciation and education to elementary age children in a fun and creative format. Her own creative song writing capabilities manifested in high school and since then she has gained numerous awards for her singing and writing talents. A big feather in her cap was competing and winning her way up to represent New Mexico in the National Wrangler Country Starsearch in Nashville, Tennessee nationally televised in 1982. Katie is a founding member of the Buckarettes, who have been together since 1998. They stylize old and new cowgirl swing like no other group has dared. Their vocals are reminiscent of the Andrews Sisters. They have been heard around the world on radio stations in Germany, France, England, Ireland, Australia, Japan and - of course - the USA. They have three CD's, the first one, entitled "The Buckarettes" has sold out several times since its release. A Christmas album release in 2004, "Snow Angels", took them by storm as CD's could not be produced fast enough for demand. Their third CD, "Cowgirl Serenade" has gotten world-wide attention, winning awards and receiving positive acclaim from DJ's who love spinning their songs on their playlists. Two of the songs reached the top 10 mark in the Western genre of DJ's. It won Best Country CD in the 2009 New Mexico MIC awards. Katie has had her hands in producing each of the three albums and has original songs on each of them. Go to CD Baby.com and get a CD now! She has been seen on local public television stations (KNME and Channel 27, "A Alive") and appeared on a TV pilot of the Scott Connor Show performing her original music from her album. Teaching has always been a part of Katie's musical regimen. She has taught private voice and guitar lessons since 1973. Some of her students have gone on to perform and/or teach, sharing the wonderful gift of music. Since harmony is one of her favorite things, Katie began holding workshops on how to sing harmony for the beginning to the advanced. This is a much needed tradition to uphold to tune the ear to the heart and sing what is there with ease, confidence and freedom and to have fun with it at the same time. Katie continues to delight audiences with her energy and talents. Through her performance, Katie brings a unique and soulful conversation with her audience. She has always been given wonderful reviews, with an enthusiastic welcome to come back.
